While Slovenia may be a country commonly associated with its big-room techno stars, Ljubljana-based DJ duo and record label Danza Macabra have enjoyed continued success over the last few years and established itself as a rising star in the underground electronic music world thanks to its growing discography of stunning, emotive, dub-flavored minimal and tech house releases. Honing their niche even further in the realms of understated, hypnotic elegance, Danza Macabra have teamed up with like-minded producers Axel Bartsch (Sportclub), Patlac (liebe*detail) and SCSI-9 (Pro-tez/Kompakt) for a new 4-track various artist EP, Dancing With Love Paradox!
Kicking things off is Axel Bartsch with the dirty and techy groover “In Love”. The Kompakt veteran makes clever use of a sample from an early 80s garage classic, transforming the original funk vibe into tense, dynamic minimal techno with a plodding motorik rhythm, subtly warping bassline, old-school house percussion and a perfect, reverb drenched vocal.
Hamburg-based Producer and EGO resident Patlac, with previous releases on liebe*detail and Baalsaal Records perfectly combines a harmony of heavenly pads, breathy whispers, barely-there flutes and Detroit strings over Innervisions-style percussion on “Chp” – a sensual, yearning, melodic deep-house masterpiece.
Hot on the heels of their 5th album release, Russian veterans SCSI-9 get cozy on “From East To West”, a deep house number that pulls you into a loving embrace of sexy wandering pads and analog bleeps. The percussion programming adds even more charm to the track, with its decidedly live feel. Blissful melodic techno from the well established duo with previous releases on Trapez and Kompakt!
Danza Macabra round out the EP with their remix of the track “Electricity” by experimental synth duo, Silence (album out soon). Starting with a solid tech house groove, a stuttered synth enters and gains momentum as a ghostly piano echoes plaintive, reverberated notes. Haunting vocals are skillfully worked in at the breakdown, like a whisper carrying a deeper message. Danza Macabra deliver substance, musicality, and impressive production on this remix.
